Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

What is a cloud hosted VoIP System?

Traditional phone systems involve hardware systems (a PBX) inside your office to handle your calls, voicemails etc.  Instead of this costly option, we host your phone system's PBX in our cloud data center in Dallas.  It is guarded, secure, online 24/7 and redundantly supported to never go offline.

What about a power outage?

Our data system is supported by industrial generators that activate immediately in the event of a power failure.  A battery between the servers and the power system ensure that you experience no downtime, even during the switchover.

What is VoIP?

VoIP means Voice Over Internet Protocol.  It is a system that sends voice / telephone communications over the internet using various protocols like SIP, making connections more efficient, reliable, and significantly less expensive.  It is a proven technology that powers millions of calls per second all over the world.

Do I need to keep my current phone lines?

Once you are on the system, you do not need to keep your old phone lines. If you are paying for lines from a telephone company, your cable company, or someone else, you can eliminate this expense?

What about my phone numbers?

You will keep your phone numbers, any that you wish. Our amazing porting team will get your phone number seamlessly transitioned to your Siplogix trunk.

Can I get a new number? Or an 800 number?

Of course! Our Tier-1 systems can provision new phone numbers, as many as you need, including vanity numbers, sequential numbers, from any area code you wish.  You can get an 800 number for your use as well.

Can I still call 911 with a VoIP number?

Absolutely.  A system called E-911 exists for VoIP numbers to connect to the 911 system.  We will register you for this service as part of your setup at no additional charge.

What about international calling? Can I make international calls?

If you make international calls as part of your business, we will activate international calling for you at no additional charge.  International calling rates will still apply, but are generally lower than standard phone lines charge.

I already have VoIP phones, do I have to buy new ones?

If you own VoIP phones already, we can reprogram them to work on our system, and you are free to use your existing equipment.  If your equipment is dated and you want to deploy new phones, we are happy to assist with that, using our connections we can get you competitive pricing on new phones.

Do I have to use VoIP phones?

Traditional VoIP phones are straightforward and easy to use, but no.  Using a headset connected to a computer, our software can make and receive calls without an actual phone.

What about remote workers or when I am out of the office?

We can configure and ship phones to your remote employees that will work on. your system just like they are in the office.   They can also use our software solution through their computer, or our app on their cell phone to make and receive calls.

What if my internet goes down can I still make calls?

Without internet, you would not be able to make or receive calls on your VoIP phones.   Calls to your business would still come in to our server, and could be forwarded to another number (like a cell phone) if you want to pre-set this as a failover option, or they can be sent to voicemail, which you would be able to retrieve when your connection was restored.   Customers using Siplogix managed networking would never experience this issue, as all our managed networks have failover connections pre-set, so you never lose access to your vital systems.

Faxing

Common questions about faxing with Siplogix.

How does faxing work with Siplogix?

Faxing can be setup in a number of ways.  We pride ourselves on our reliable Fax systems.  You can send and receive faxes directly in our desktop software.  If you use a physical fax machine, we can provide you with a device that will connect your machine to our system allowing you to flawlessly send and receive faxes on your own equipment.

I've heard bad things about faxing over VoIP lines, will I have problems?

Faxing over VoIP has the potential to be very problematic. Most companies use an ATA setup to emulate a phone line.  They remove the compression and hope for the best, and this leads to problems a lot of the time.   We do not do things this way.  If you are using a physical fax machine, our device connected to it will receive your outgoing fax and transmit it using a reliable a proven fax protocol and incoming faxes will work the same way.  If you've had trouble in the past, you will be pleasantly surprised by the performance of our system.   We treat fax as mission critical.

What about a fax server/ If we have one already will it still work?

We can integrate our system with a Microsoft Fax Server, or just about any fax server you have already set up.  Our engineers will put together a custom solution that will tie your existing system in, if that is what you prefer.

Our EMR has a fax server, will it work with your system?

It will depend on your EMR.   We can directly connect our fax server to EPIC, and there are a number of fax systems in other EMRs that we have working solutions for.  The odds are good that we can make it happen.

Some of our faxes are very large, is this a problem?

Not at all.  Our fax system is built to serve enterprise medical needs, and it can handle faxes of several hundred pages.   If you routinely send large faxes, we can provide you with software that will accept faxes of any size.

Is your fax system HIPAA compliant?

Absolutely.   If you need HIPAA compliance we will provide you with a signed BAA, and your incoming and outgoing faxes will be 100% HIPAA compliant.

Installation

Questions about installation of equipment.

Will Siplogix install all the equipment for me?

If you are in Houston, Texas one of our engineers will come onsite and install your system for you, and conduct any training you require.

What if I'm not in Houston?

We can remotely reprogram your existing phones, or if you are getting new phones through us, they will arrive preconfigured or automatically configure themselves upon first boot.  We are available to talk you through any setup questions.  Most of our customers are able to self install basic phones without issue.

Will my credit card machine work?
